Lane Mears

Assistant Vice Chancellor
Lane Mears joined the TTU System as assistant vice chancellor in 2025, after serving as a senior leader at the U.S. Agency for International Development in Amman, Jordan. Mears considers himself a champion of people. In 16 years of development work in Kenya, Rwanda, El Salvador, Zimbabwe, and Jordan, Mears has led and inspired teams and individuals to grow, achieve, and love what they do. His strengths are inspiring leadership, teambuilding, strategic planning, and clear, effective communication.
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law, Mears clerked for the Texas Supreme Court and spent 10 years practicing law in Austin. Driven to make a greater impact with his skills and faith, in 2009, Mears moved with his family to East Africa to work with a nonprofit providing legal aid and trauma counseling to sexually abused children. After nearly five years, he joined the U.S. Foreign Service and led and developed cross-cultural teams to reduce crime and violence in El Salvador, redress human rights abuses in Zimbabwe, and promote stability in Jordan, a key U.S. ally in a perilous region. Mears has a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.
Mears and his wife, Anna, have four children.
